President Message

Dear SCSMA Members:

Welcome to the South Carolina Society of Medical Assistants website.  We are medical assistants that are wholeheartedly committed to our organization and our patients.  As you scroll through our website, you will find information about educational opportunities to keep your credential current.    You will also see those that are serving you in your local chapter and state society and find their contact information. We also like to encourage our students as you begin your journey to becoming certified.

There are plenty of opportunities for you to attain your CEU’s to recertify your credential that you worked so hard to achieve.  The state society meets, usually, three times a year.  We meet in August and January of each year in a central location, where you can receive up to 4-6 CEU’s.  Our state meeting is held in March where you can receive up to 18-20 CEU’s.  The state conference for 2022 will be held at the North Myrtle Beach Hilton and we will be celebrating our 50th year as SCSMA!!

We also have business meetings at each of these sessions.  Your leaders are those that conduct the business of the SCSMA and help keep our right to practice in SC up-to-date.  The business meetings are great times for networking and interacting with other medical assistants to find out about potential job opportunities and to see how other offices are dealing with issues and finding solutions.

This year, we have started a state community project, “Fostering the Fosters”.  We are helping non-profit foster parent agencies by donating new and gently used items for those that are taking in foster children on a moments notice.  These foster parents usually do not know they are getting a child until they receive a phone call.  The foster parent agencies help provide items to the parents for the children that are coming in to the home on short notice.  These items include clothing, shoes, toys, books and anything else you can think of for babies to age 16.

On a personal note, the fellowship that I have had with our organization has helped me in many ways.  The SCSMA and my local chapter is how I got my job that I currently work and have been serving in for more than 15 years.  I have made many friends throughout the state and also throughout the nation with our national office, the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA).

Membership in the AAMA is a great key to getting your CEU’s registered and staying informed on your credential.  You always hear that “being a member has rewards” and it truly does.  You receive discounts on registration for our national and state conferences as well as in your local chapter meetings.

Please feel free to connect with any of your leaders to find out more about our wonderful opportunities to serve our society and attend a meeting.  We are here to serve you and help in any way we can.
